God Values Our Faith in Him

Jesus Noticed Faith

When Jesus was on earth, He constantly commented on the faith of the people He had helped.  He also grieved when He found little or no faith.  Once, He wondered aloud whether He would find any faith on the earth when He returns one day.  (Luke 18:8)  I hope He finds faith in my heart; how about you?

Faith is Valuable

The Apostle Peter said that our faith is more precious than gold.  (1 Peter 1:7)  Can you imagine this?  Faith in God is more valuable, more desirable, more costly than gold.  Human beings honor and desire gold, because of the power, comfort, and security they think it will give them.  Men and women have died digging gold from the earth.  People have risked everything to steal gold from others.  Yet, we see in the Bible, that our faith in God is a far greater treasure than gold.

Why is faith so dear in God’s eyes?  Hebrews 11:6 tells us, “And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.” When we have faith in God, we tell Him that we trust Him to do what He has promised to do.  When we do not have faith in God; we tell Him we think He is either too weak to keep His promises, or He is a liar.

We humans like it when others believe our words, even though many think it’s all right to lie.  God loves people to believe what He tells them, because He never lies.  Numbers 23:19 says, “God is not a man, that he should lie.”  He has been faithfully keeping His promises for thousands of years.   Titus 1:2 says, “Paul … an Apostle of Jesus Christ … In the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised long ages ago.”

Where does faith come from?

So, how do we obtain faith in God?  Is it found naturally in people?  I believe faith is found in children.  It is closely related to their imaginations and their innocent trusting hearts; until sin smashes all that is hopeful and drives it from them as they age.  Jesus said, “Truly I say to you, unless you are converted and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 18:3,4)  Yet, how do we believe like children again?

The Apostle Paul said, “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.” (Romans 10:17) If we will read and study the Bible, God’s word, we will receive faith.  If we already have faith in God, the Scriptures will cause that faith to grow.  Jesus said, “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:4) (See also Luke 4:4 and Deuteronomy 8:3.)  The word of God feeds our hearts; strengthening our faith.

The Prophet Jeremiah said, “Your words were found and I ate them, and Your words became for me a joy and the delight of my heart.”  (Jeremiah 15:16) This is one of my favorite Bible verses.

God Keeps His Word

God is a God of faith.  How can He not trust Himself?  He knows how faithful and trustworthy He is.  2 Timothy 2:13 says, “If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.”  So what does our faithful God say about His own words and promises?

In Ezekiel 36:36 God says, “I, the LORD, have spoken and will do it.”

In Jeremiah 1:12 God says, “… for I am watching over My word to perform it.”

In Isaiah 55: 10,11, God said, “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there without watering the earth and making it bear and sprout, and furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater; So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.”

Faith is Tested

Back to the gold analogy: Peter says that each individual Believer’s faith is tested by fire just like gold. (1 Peter 1:7)  Why? To make sure that it is wholly genuine. To purify it: To remove all the weaknesses.  And when the contaminations are gone; our faith is more beautiful, and much stronger.

Faith is Powerful

Faith in God is powerful.  Just read the entire chapter of Hebrews 11.  Faith in God gives people strength and makes the impossible possible.  This is because God is able to do all that humans cannot do.  Faith simply believes that God is who He says He is: That He has done what He says He has done; and that He will do what He says He will do.

I believe God is exactly who He says He is in the Bible.  I believe Jesus is exactly who He says He is in the Bible.  I believe all He has said, that He fully intends to keep every promise, and that He is doing so even now.

In Faith,
